- Drag files or a folder onto the window, or press Add to pick files.
- Choose quality and, if you want, a resolution or image size in the right pane.
- Choose an output folder, or keep results next to each original.
- Press Compress. If you selected some cards, only those run.
- Read each result. Show in File Explorer opens the output.
Originals stay in place. Results are named -squeezed, then -squeezed-2 if that name is taken. Stop cancels; finished files stay.

Not supported in this version: animated images, GIF, PDF, TIFF, BMP.
Video details
- Output is SDR, with even dimensions, never upscaled.
- Only the first video and first audio track are used. AAC audio may be copied; other audio is converted to AAC.
- Subtitles, chapters and extra tracks are not copied.
- Supported HDR video is converted to SDR. Some HDR variants are refused.
Image details
- Transparent areas become white when converted to JPEG.
- Balanced and Smallest File reduce PNG colours and can change appearance.
- Maximum Quality is not a lossless guarantee.
What the results mean
| Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
| size · % smaller | Done. The new file is next to the original or in your output folder. |
| Already small | The result would not be smaller, so no output was kept. Not an error. |
| Format converted / larger | You asked for a different image format; it was converted even though it got bigger. |
| Unsupported | The file type is not supported. |
| Cannot read | The file may be damaged, protected, cloud-only or use an unsupported codec. Copy cloud-only files to your PC first. |
| Cannot write / access denied | Choose a folder you can write to, and check free disk space. |
| No video encoder | Update your graphics driver and check that Windows media components are installed. |
Common questions
Why did my phone video barely shrink?
Modern phones record in HEVC, which is already efficient. FileSqueeze writes H.264 or AV1. Try a lower resolution, or AV1 if your GPU supports it.
Can I compress to an exact size?
No. Use resolution, quality, AV1 and Remove audio. See compress a video for email.
Can I add a folder with the Add button?
No. Drag the folder from File Explorer onto the window. Add picks files.
Which Windows versions are supported?
Windows 11 version 24H2 or later on an x64 PC. There is no ARM64 build yet.
I see .filesqueeze-*.tmp files.
They are left only if the app was forced to close or the PC lost power. Close FileSqueeze, then delete them. They are incomplete temporary files.
Purchase, trial or refund questions?
Microsoft Store handles them. Open Microsoft Store, sign in with the account you bought with, and use Microsoft Store support. The purchase belongs to that Microsoft account.
Before you contact support
- Never send private originals unless asked. A small non-private sample helps.
- Logs are local, in the app's
LocalState\logsfolder. Review them and remove filenames or your username before you share them.
